UK: Woolf cries foul over Home Office reforms.
The problem with the Home Office reforms, so says Lord Woolf, is that the Lord Chancellor will need to look after prisons & probations compromising his relationship with the judiciary.
Other problems foreseen are that the court budget might be squeezed if it’s included within the prison’s. And that important constitutional checks and balances will be upset.
With the new department (the Ministry of Justice) due to start up next month, Penguin Island wonders if the Government has fully thought this through.
